Looks like a big chunk of weathered limestone to me. But it depends on where in the country it's located.
All the small holes remind me of worm holes in sediment too, so it could be a piece of fossilized seabed.

It was dug up nowhere near water... out in a field.
Then it may be a possible fossil. Like what diggerdeeper suggested. The state of Michigan was once under a sea 385 million years ago.
