image.jpgwhat kind of rock is this ? Is it worth anything ?

Looks like garnets. Where is it from? A large (potential) part of value comes from location to collectors.

Hard to say without something showing the size and/or close up photos of the crystals to see if they're worth anything to someone who facets gemstones (lapidary).

As a mineral specimen, probably anywhere from $25-$50 rough guess depending on size

To small for me as a faceter to bother, I'd say. I don't cut much under 5 cts rough, though I know some do.

My estimate of value would be near 30-40$ as a specimen. Of course, with site disclosure, general area is good enough.
Specimens of unknown origin are generally not popular among collectors.

When you say specimen what does this mean ? You or someone would use it as a specimen to find out what ? I thought spessertine w the color orange was valuable no matter were it came from .
So let me understand this ? I could find or have the most valuable rock and I wouldn’t get as much for it because of this little town where I found it ! Compared to a person who found it in Africa or some other far away land ! Seems like it would not matter and seems like the person from the unknown place should get more money..please explain ....

Specimen = collectors piece, or.... an individual animal, plant, piece of a mineral, etc. used as an example of its species or type for scientific study or display.
You misunderstood. By declaring where you found it when selling, value rises. Because collectors (generally) want to know where it came from.
