What is this?

Found at old home from 1700s. It has a C on one side, and 5/8 on the other. Its also threaded. I have no clue what this is.

that is a cable tie? hold? they use them on power lines and poles. That's my guess!

I've seen them before, but not sure where. One end has threaded rod or a bolt and the steel cable is looped through the center and clamped.

As Nitric said, that is used in aerial construction. Often called an "eye nut".... predominantly used in telephone and cable TV construction. A preform or "quickie" loop is used to attach strand.

next time your around a pole line...look up at the CATV/Telephone attachments....especially where the pole line ends and down guys are, you will recognize it if you have decent vision.
