If it is an ex wife's house it is probably some evil talisman that she threw in the ground for you to find. Just kiddin, don't know but pretty unique and cool looking.

I do like the dragon on it.

I think it's not a dragon but a dolphin.. ok doesn't look like one but that's the way they made them look quite a while ago, like in colonial times...

Could be really old if not a repro and in my opinion it's no rerpo.

That's very close but the image on mine has a large wing on it's back which suggests dragon to me. The serpent like dolphins don't have this from what I can see.

Still not sure what this is I have looked everywhere on the net and can't find anything that looks like it. Should I try to clean it or leave it as is and if I should clean it, how? I also added a picture of the back.

Chinese dragon, and red coral or carnelian brooch?
The back may have contained a fastening pin.

If it was my ex-wife's yard, I'd say it was a gift to her from Satan...

Judging by the motif and clasp attachments on the back, you have found a late Victorian (1890's) ladies brooch. After Queen Victoria came out of mourning, the decorative style was more aesthetic and whimsical. Furniture, jewelry, and other decorative pieces featured dragons, dragonflies, stars, hearts, and other more 'playful' designs.
RevelentChair said it was Chinese, and that is very possible since the Chinese use dragons in jewelry as well as many other items, but since you found it in MS, I personally would lean more toward American than imported.

Neat find :)

I could have sworn it was an Asian dragon and not a serpentin dolphin.

Any thoughts on cleaning it or should I leave it be?
