I found this today a few inches deep at a house built in the 20s or 30s. The front says "Pull" and has a hole all the way through, almost like a keyhole. The back has what looks like 8 hook attachments and says "PAT. Jan 13, 1924" above the keyhole.
I added a quarter in the pic for size comparision. Any ideas?

Hello S D. What you have there is the back half of a button type snap, often found on childrens clothing. I dont know if that style is in use anymore.

The military used them on canvas web gear; ammo pouches and the like. I believe that they are called "Quick Snaps" or "Lift-a-Dots"

This is a 1917 Ammo pouch

Yeah, it was in a side yard of this little old lady's house. Maybe her husband was a WWII vet?

These are not only for military applications. I have this type of fastener on the tonneau cover of my mid-60's British sports car. I've pulled off more than one over the years.
