What Is This?

Can anyone identify this item? The finder seems to think it's a Bronze Broken Rudder Holder for a 1600's Spanish galleon but I have no idea what the heck it is. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Also, the second and third pictures.. are believed to be a stone cannon ball. What do you think?

Looks like a stone CB to me but the bronze piece I don't know.

For the purpose of scale, here is a photo of one of the gudgeons from the Emmanuel Point II wreck site...the pintle would fit in a hole near where the conservator on the right has his left hand...
I would say a definite maybe...

Yes, I see your point. Those items are very simular in shape. So which part of the shipwreck does this part actually fit onto?

Your item is possibly part of a "pintle"...2, above...

This is a galleon rudder post I donated to the Lowe Museum. Notice the thickness of the rudder. Notice the size of the post. It is round, not tapered.I don't see a match. Dell

You don't suppose it could be the bronze piece much older sailing ships had for tying ropes? The Romans I think, were the first to use bronze instead of iron.
