I found this tag saturday metaldetecting. It has the name J.T. Butler- watchmaker- charlotte,nc and the number 354 on it. The tag measures about 1 inch by 1 inch and appears to be copper? I havent cleaned it and i havent checked to see if a magnet will pick it up. Thanks for any help you can give.

According to the Beasley & Emerson's Charlotte directory for 1875-76 there was a John T.Butler that made clocks, watches and jewelry.
Is there anything on the back?

Might be a early Tool Check. A method factories use to account for tools and whose using them. They helped prevent loss and theft of said tools.
