They found it in a hole in their backyard about 5 years ago when they were putting in a pool . The house was from the 1800's

They don't collect their bikers it's what they found only kept it because they thought it was neat . It's the only piece they have so I really couldn't see it as a fake no reason to fake when it's the only thing they have.

Ill go back over tomorrow and take more. She showed it to me when my sons were telling her what I like to do as my hobby.

I'm not sure why BPG says modern either, but his call was correct. I have one similar, but not as pretty. The two of mine were found together as well.

One heck of a nice piece your neighbor has there. It is worth bringing inside. Don't know the $ amount. I would have to be in a tight spot to sell an artifact.

i have never seen a barcode on one to tell ya a price, i figure they all are free cause there not are to sell to begin with. its def a morter, tell them you wasnt to dig their yard up,lolo

I would ask to ride their bike first and then you will tell them what the rock is. Makes ya wonder sometimes what is buried in the back yard.

Looks like a well defined one as to the dimple showing in the pic. I think the reason he called modern is because the dimple looks fresh as the rock looks older. But it could be polish from years of grinding or they might of added something to it so it would look clean maybe oil of some kind. Seeing they arent collectors they wouldnt know not to clean it or polish it. But as to the value they just dont sell that well. You can find all different prices on the net. 35$ and up. Depends on if somebody falls in love with it. Good Luck

Some day the value of these tools will be appreciated.

If I find them myself they are priceless to me. I spend on most hunts 6 hours out in the fields. $35 just wouldnt justify for me. Id rather keep it or leave it for the low prices they bring now days.

I have given away so many of those over the years. Last group I left stacked up in a rock shelter and went back a year later and they were all gone. Mine were the lap stone variety. I am going to take some pics one day of all the ones in my yard.

It's cause the rock formation is older than the dimple

Its the right material for Ohio alot of em are made from sandstone,

No harm intended on my modern comment just never seen a grinding bowl like that but i do like it!

Thank you everyone who replied. It's stored in their garage and I more than her would like the price . For the right price I would buy it since I have nothing at all like it, and believe me it would be priceless to me. As for digging up the yard 3 house down I'm digging the field. And truly it's a field I figured I would never find anything in but happened to be totally opposite! As for the ride first I can have one anytime there's always someone there offering . I didn't make it back today for more pics due to 2 sick kids and its raining cats and dogs and a few trees here today. But I promise soon ill get back over there for more pics because I really want it!

Oh yeah I forgot to mention all the white inside is because I was like a kid in a toy store I had to play with it see what it could have been for believe me when I say I got some funny looks

It does look like a nice example. I have one that I found and havent ever found another since. Its rare when you find both pieces. Ill give you some facts on grinders. They would carry the Mano when they changed camp sites but the Mortars they would turn upside down and leave them in their old camps just in case they ever returned it would be there. The Mortars were usually too big to carry from one camp site to another. They would just make a new one. Seeing you are their neighbor maybe she will cut you a break or maybe offer a trade. Maybe offer to mow their property a few times for them for it. Just a thought
