New to treasurenet and digging. Can anyone ID this piece we found this weekend? Not sure the metal but it's not magnetic. Hollow with a big opening in a small opening and on the small side there's a small hole on the side. Any ideas? Thanks and I'm already enjoying treasurenet!

It's shaped like a cigarette snubber/snuffer people use to put in an ashtray to extinguish a cig. I remember seeing brass ones back in the 70's. But your item looks older, but I really can't tell from the photos. :) Breezie

Thanks. my first thought was it looked like maybe the spout to a gun powder horn or flask(?). will continue to research it and I really appreciate your help!

I thought it might be a knob off a hand crank.

Is the hole in the side threaded?

Looks to be about the right size for a weight on a pull chain.

Looks just like the tip on an e-cig. I don't think they've been around long enough to show up in the dirt, though.

Solved. The South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology identified it as a Powderhorn flask tip.

Darby, Did the SC Institute of A & A send you any photos matching this up with a powder horn tip? I'm not denying their answer, but I'd like to hear some thoughts from TheCannonballGuy. He is at the Ohio Civil War Show this weekend, but should be back by Sunday night. You might want to send him a PM.

It does look like it could be from a powder horn but I dont know why it would have a hole in the side.queenannepowhrns.webp

Hey Breezie. He showed me some pictures of some similar ones. My piece is missing the closing mechanism but they all agreed on the ID. any additional input however would be great. Thanks
