Yeah, on second look the hole runs up through the back not vertically so maybe a hoe or possibly the back of a pickaxe?Glenn C said:

Could it possibly be a lock latch for on a crate of some sort ...maybe ammo... such kinda guessing but looks similiar to one i found a hinge lookin thing of some sort once..

I agree with ripper6xray.
I'm with the Tennessee mountain man on this one - I really like the flat adze suggestion.
