Definitely something dry like Taz said. Face cream would be a bear keeping out of those knurls around the edge.

My first thought was an antique hair reciever. The mark makes me think of Limoges.

Best,

I think its too small for powder.:dontknow: My Mom had toothpicks in it because they just fit. Its only about as tall as a toothpick.

All I can say is its hand painted white porcelain. The hinge and closure is metal.

Whats a Limoges?

I thought maybe the initials would be my best chance at an ID but the initials themselves may be hand painted. The word Painted even looks funny but I think thats what it is.

Can anybody guess the initials? View attachment 649079

Hank Dainsod? Is Hank a French name?

I lost my pic so I have to post it again. Try this.

The script on the bottom reads: Made in France Hand Painted

At first, it looked to be a piece from a late Victorian Vanity Set, but if you will notice the hallmark looks to be machine stamped instead of being hallmarked by hand. This would put it after the turn of the century possibly from the pre-20s up to 50s. Is it part of a Vanity Set, which could have held one of numerous items; ie. hair pins. Generally powder containers were only about 1 to 2 inches in height and approximately 4 inches across.

BCH, hold it close to a light bulb, and if you can see light through it, it's probably bone china, but more than likely it is porcelain.

Here is a site showing 22 pages of hand hallmarked French porcelain. After comparing your hallmark to these hallmarks, you can see yours looks machine stamped. At any rate, it's a very nice vanity piece.

Neat item, Breezie

Its 2-3/8 inches tall but only 1-7/8 inches diameter across so I think it rules out powder.

Im thinking hair clip would be the right size.

I can see light through it but not a lot.

Do the initials have any meaning?

BCH, I'm thinking the initials and the wreath are the manufacturer's hallmark. If you could find some more recent( more recent meaning 20s/30s/40s) French porcelain hallmarks, you could probably find out who/what company made it. Do you have any more pieces or is that the only one? Breezie

This was the only one. Ill try searching French hallmarks. I was afraid it might be the artists initials.
