I know it's a Scottish Thistle, but i'm working on what it actually is. Maybe a brooch.

It may be a marker for someone in the AOH, the Ancient Order of Hibernia. I believe they used a Thistle in their emblem at one time. I'll hunt around...

It's hard to make out in the photo, do you know what that is on the bottom of the piece, below the thistle?

I'd like to see a clear pic of the back and edges, but judging by the one pic, I think it is half of a brass cloak clasp. Nice find, Breezie

I agree with the thistle part but what does the back look like? It could be a brooch/broach but I don't see any connection points.

Check out British Regiment Sweetheart Badges, this looks a lot like one.

The item also appears to show an acorn or is that part of a thistle that has yet to 'bloom'?
It is an acorn coming out of the side.

After seeing the back, it confirms to me that it is half of a cloak clasp or a clothes clasp of some type. The other side would have had the 'hook' end. Judging by the acorn, leaf, and thistle motif, I'd put it circa 1880s. Nice find, Breezie

Thanks Breezie! Do you know a time period?

Foster, I edited my first post to put circa 1880s, but you must have quoted before I hit the post button. Go back and find the other half! LOL ;D Breezie
