I agree on a survey marker and add tht it is used for a temporary marker to show the elevation of a construction project. Examples would be a road bed that is predetermined to be 9'3" above the existing terrain, or perhaps marking the flood pool of a reservoir. It would show the name of the Project, the elevation, and the date the determination was made, 0579 (May 1979). I'm not sure what the information in the middle might mean? I saw something similar to this when they were building a reservoir near my home and they were replaced by permanent markers as the project was being completed. You might contact the Corps of Engineers as they might have more information? Monty

thaks for the info fellas. I'm still wondering why a survey mark would have a weight stamped into it. Any thought on that?
