What is this?

I found this item metal detecting on the beach. I havent cleaned it but it doesnt look like brass, could this be gold? I scraped a small spot to see what it was. Thanks.

Looks like the sort of handle you might find on a roll-top desk.

I was thinking some kind of hardware too. Like part of a latch type lock off of some kind of cabinet.

A good rule of thumb about gold too is, gold comes out of the ground pretty much the same way it goes in. In other words, there would be little "patina" as gold does not oxidize or corrode like brass or copper and such

Still nice find...it looks very old. No doubt off of a hand made piece of furniture or cabinet of some kind

Ahhhh, yes that's why it looked familiar to me. That really look like that's what it is
