What is this? Whats the age on it? Found this item metal detecting in a site of an army air field. practice training base. And base. Is it related to the place? Army related? It does not stick to the magnet. guessing brass or copper? Found in area where 1951 wheatie was found. 20210213_152832.webp20210213_152845.webp20210213_152906.webp
 

Appears to be a spent shell casing......IMO.

I was leaning towards a rivet, stud, wall anchor of some sort, but the notch in it threw me off. Can't tell if it's a purpose cut notch or an accidental notch (IE damage).

All the babble said, it doesn't look like any shell casing I've ever seen.

Looks like a scrap of copper tubing that had a flaring tool used on it but the copper split open

Possibly the end for a drawstring. Like for a duffle bag or even for window blinds.

You run the string through it and tie a knot in the end.

Copper tubing that the flaring tool split the tube so it was cut off and and the flare re-done.

I've done it many times.

Not that old... maybe 60's imo
