What is this "v" for on a quarter I found?

I found it the other day and I can't figure out why the "V" is on there. Was it a mistake or did someone put it on there? Thanks.

That is punched in by someone. If it was minted like that it would be raised lettering

Could be a "juke box" quarter. Sometimes you find painted ones. The bartender would put bar money in the juke box to play music hoping the customers would put more money in. When the juke box was emptied out, he would retrieve his juke box quarters, count the rest to know exactly how much money was made from the music . Or maybe somebody was just jacking around with a V stamp. LOL
