What is this? Usage? Age? value?

Looks like maybe a cigerette container, but seems too thin to be. It looks real old, and hand made. Has a stamp of an anchor, a lion, and the letter F. Also a faded shield shaped stamp that looks like the letters V,b and maybe L and another letter. It has a hinged top that opens up. Any idea what it is? Maybe its age? Could it be worth something?

Thanks in advanced for all your help. ;D

Looks like a match safe, if the dimensions are right. Art Nouveau era, similar ones are listed for anywhere from $75 to over $200. It's worth what some is willing to pay for it. Nice piece.

It is 1/4 inch thick( a little more if you count the design of it) and weighs 83 grams. it is 4 1/4 inch by 3 inch.

Oh, that's big. In that case it must be a calling card case, you don't see too many that open from the top like that. Most open from the side and reveal the inside of the case. Still a nice item and worth the same range. Generally the more intricate the the more they sell for.
