IMG_0445.JPGIMG_0445.JPGMy friend has this. Thinks it could be a geode. He's tried to cut with a chop saw for 10 minutes with no progress. Used a masonry drill for 10 minutes with no progress. Hit it with a hammer and chisel on the seams and nothing. Hit it with a 10# sledge(we don't know how hard) and nothing. Any ideasIMG_0447.JPGIMG_0446.JPGIMG_0447.JPG

Oh my, I can not help you with the ID; but a general rule of thumb, if you do not know what it is then do not use every most destructive tool among the arsenal of the work shop.

Haha wasn't me that did all that. Friend and his brother-in-law did. But we're drinking beer staring at it resisting the urge to break out bigger tools

Its a Geode. A solid quartz one, in some areas thes are called a thunder egg. Wet masonry saw and some patience if he wants to slice it. I use a chisel, hammer and I evem more patience to open the ones I find. I usually only split the ones that are hollow.

A wet diamond saw should do it. Thunder eggs are searched for, hoping that they AREN'T solid, but have some hollow or different material inside. Neat find, for sure. I'd be having it in my saw as soon as I got it home. Is it lighter than you think it should be for it's size?
