What is this thing ?

2 inches wide and 6 ounces. Not sure if it's iron or steel. Found in a plowed field where I've found old bullets and arrowheads. Does anyone know or have any guesses ?

Looks like part of a ball joint, but front axles on some wagons, carts and other implements that have an independent front bolster have a bevel joint like that.
