Hi, today with my metal detector at the beach I found something that looks like a large silver coin but with nothing written on it. It is not magnetic. Can anyone help me figure out what this thing is and what type of metal it is made of!

Thanks

I did some research on the internet and I think this could be a blank planchet mint error silver coin.

since I think I figured out what this is, anyone know how much it could be worth?

You would need to know what planchet it is. Have you compared it to modern coins for thickness and size? Is it nickel? from your photo it looks a little thick to be a planchet but you have not included any measurements

here is a picture of it next to a Canadian silver dollar and a picture of it next to a Canadian quarter, and yes it is significantly larger and thicker.

Looking at the edge it looks like a punched piece of metal. I suspect someone needed a hole and that’s the slug punched out.

But look closely it has a reeded edge just like a coin.

Whether or not this is a blank coin planchet, I cannot say as I by no means am familiar with that topic. What I will say is that, to me, my first thought was that the material looks like zinc, from the pictures. It has that sparkly, grainy looking texture that I expect from a rough piece of zinc. Does this rule out a planchet? No. Many coins are made from zinc. Either way this is just me saying what I see from over on this side of the fence.

clearly looks punched by the outer rim abrasion
Think its just a die punched slug or a freeze plug
did you clean it?
Beach find? fresh or salt water?
Imo I don't see that its coin related

I found it on freshwater beach. Haven't cleaned it.

Could it be stainless? :dontknow: That was my first thought when seeing it...

Could be a left over piece from pressing or punching a hole in metal that went to a boat or anything really. I don't know enough about rough coins..

Edge is no where near reeded, way too thick to be a coin.

Doesn't look like silver, you have found a punched chunk of non magnetic metal.

Indeed I also like the post of someone punching a hole from some boat related object. This is a slug. Nothing more. But hey, Great find :) Anything that comes out of the dirt is awesome

Looks too thick to be any knockout I've ever seen, but it was punched or possibly machined out of something to make a hole in metal plate.
