found this near an 1800s site. it was rolled up in the ground and has some fancy at the bottom. It is cut so i’m not sure if it’s the whole piece of not. Anybody have any clue what this is??? And it not no sterling or hallmarks thanks!! A97594F5-40D8-4004-AD44-86B1A6FD8576.jpegimage.jpgimage.jpg

Could still be sterling. Don’t quote me on this but I believe thy weren’t required to stamp sterling or .925 until 1868. As to what it is, it could be an old napkin ring. It’s pretty big though.

In the late 1800's the Spiritualist Movement, and eventually made into 2 church types, used a spirit sort of megaphone like that which you have. They were intended to be used by spirits to bring their voices through louder.

I think may be a chunk of a weighted sterling salt/pepper shaker. Someone may have busted it up to get the weight out to scrap value of the sterling. So your piece isn’t marked since the marks were on the base.
