What is this rock?

I found this on the beach near Cambria California. It feels like jade that I have found at Jade Cove. It's kind of reddish as you can see. I am not real knowledgeable on identifying rocks that I find. I just enjoy finding and tumbling rocks with interesting colors and or patterns. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Tnet.

The jade from that locality is Nephrite Jade an amphibole. Nephrite isn't found in solid brown colors like your piece so it's more likely to be chert.

Some of the more rare Jadeite Jade is found in California. Jadeite can be found in many colors but the brown varieties are not known to occur with white.
