Jason in Enid said:Well, first off it DOES look like a granite type of rock and not concrete.
Slag could be any color based on what metal the slag is coming from, but that's not slag.
Since it's just a rock, take a hammer to it! Find out WHAT is causing the response.
iCandy said:Put the rock in the microwave & cook it for about 30 minutes.....see if you're microwave starts sparking...& still works after the 30 minutes. Then afterwards.....instead of "hot potato".....you can play "hot rock"......bet the rock stays hot longer than a potato anyway...

It just looked like a rock. I checked it and the ground with the detector and got no responce. The next time it happened, I picked up the rock and just checked it. I got a responce! I then wiped off the rock. The responce vanished. I was working a dry wash and some of the rocks were covered with flour gold. From then on I wiped them off in a zip lock bag. I have seen a Tesoro pick up hot looking rocks on the beach that my DFX would not sound off on
in all metal mode...
Long ago I remember rocks like this, that would pick up all the way on max descrim and you could
ground balance this out with a manual ground balance machine....
maybe...
