It kind off looks like an old type leaded pop off pressure plug. They had types like this on the old Steam engines .

We posted the same time 8 seconds apart.
i see that, whats the chances of that happening ?? i really think thats what that is !! some type of round,if it's larger than a .50 cal it could be a .54 cal !!

This is a modern .54cal Muzzleloader round for use in old Flintlock or Muzzleloader Rifles and Pistols.

I think Tony in SC and trixie got it. Its a sabot bullet from a hunter. I wonder if the sabot prevents rifling of the slug? Green check?

Dang, that looks like awfully thick metal for a bullet. If it is it certainly is a sabot since there are no rifling marks on it. I have a .50 caliber muzzle loader and it shoots a saboted bullet that is .45 or .44 caliber. My .54 caliber rifle also shoots a .45 caliber bullet only in a thicker sabot. I haven't bought bullets lately for the .54, but a true bore size bullet would not have a sabot. So I am confused. Monty

Here is another photo with other objects for scale. The expanded object is larger in diameter than the 50 Cal bullet to the left and is the same diameter as the new 3 ring Minie which is .58 Cal. The scale shows it at as 1" long.

I don't know the bore diameter, but maybe a sabot from a 12 gauge shotgun.

Just to be sure, I dug out one of my muzzleloading sabots and its copper coated lead. Considering size and solid copper means its a modern shotgun slug. Unless there are any objections, the green check is in order. :D

I don't think it's a match yet. There is no crimp marks like the one copper slug shown in the previous post and the length if the side slices for expansion don't match up either. The weight is .993 oz

that round came out of a casing, and i don't think it's a shotgun round, the reason it looks a little bigger is because of the impact it made on something which means that not only did the end open up but the force also went into the base which makes it look a little bigger from the base up! it could be a .50 cal before impact but look like a .54 after impact,by no means is it in it's manufactured state !! ;D and it still looks like a hollow point to me !@! :icon_thumleft:

What crimp mark? :icon_scratch: There are no crimp marks on most saboted bullets including shotgun sabots. I only posted that last pic to show a copper coated lead bullet.

I believe your slug is a hollow point solid copper shotgun sabot. What do you think it is? I agree it looks older but how old are solid copper bullets? I dont think it could be a muzzleloading sabot because its not lead.
Do they may solid copper .54 caliber bullets?

Here is the pic again.

How do you explain the solid copper bullet and lack of rifling? Just asking.

Yes of course its a hollow point but there is no crimp or rifling. There is also no lead.

Im not a bullet guy and Im out of my league here but Im willing to learn..
