Dug this in an area close to an old bottle dump.
No old coins or anything but this. This was less than an inch down but depth doesn't matter as this is rock and shell and nothing is sinking deep here. Very hard ground.
What is this for? I've seen similar online listed as buttons.
There no sign of a shank.
There was a house close to there in the early 1900's and an old road ran by it that was torn down recently.
A school built about 40 or 50 years ago resides over part of the old road and the disc was next to an old wood bridge (short) that went over the ditch.
A little more info.

thank you,

I thought about that but then my imagination took off and considered other ideas.
It lacks a few features to make me think it's a battery. But could be.
I added some info to the original post for context.

Hard to tell really as most of the photos are just a tad blurry.
From photo #3 & 4 it looks like a battery. #5 actually looks like when it has started to decay/swell inside.
Got a bench vice?

What metal is it made of? I would think a battery would have the size, model number, and output info stamped into it. Maybe just a plug for something.

Magnetic. It looks like maybe some letters or numbers.
I think I see an E,L or just a coincidence.+
Definitely no number or + - associated with a battery.

In the picture with the quarter my pea sized brain keeps seeing a buffalo nickel.....maybe an aborted attempt at a hobo nickel?

I still think there's a possibility of a button.
Will keep researching until I can research no more.

Thank you for all replies.
