What is this lead object??

I found it about 6" deep with a X5 & man did it scream at me in the headphones. It weighs several pounds, you can see it's size with my finger & thumb holding it & has the following written on it:

AMERICAN MARINE
GENUINE
UNITED AMERICAN METALS
######## Chicago Illinois

and on the American shield style seals just above my thumb, it has:

SYRACUSE METALS
MADE IN AMERICA

I've heard it's plumbers lead......I assume they cut off part of it & use to solder lead pipes.
Is this true??

YOURS LOOKS TO BE AN OLDER ONE

WAS IT FOUND ON THE BEACH BY CHANCE OR NEAR WATER.

HERES SOME LEAD I FOUND DATES FROM 1890 SELBY SMELTERS SANFRANSISCO THEY SOLD OUT TO ASARCO IN 1910

...........those pics from Montana Jim's site are awesome.
They look very similar to the lead object I found.

BTW, imafishingnutt asked where I found it.
