What is this? How old?

Found this metal detecting in the site of an us army air field grounds base. Practice training base. And a base too. Is it related to the base? Is this broken? At first I thought it was a rivet but there is a gap at the bottom? It does not stick to the magnet in anyway. Is it brass or copper? What is this Whats the age on it? It does some writing on it I dont know what it says. In picture 5 is where it has writing. Is that the makers mark?

How can anyone tell in #5 photo that has the following quality:

#1: Blurry
#2: In shadow
Suggestion-not that it hasn't been stated once/twice/many times before: Get better lighting, preview photo before posting, think about the question, get a magnifying glass and tell the membership what it says on the object.
There is no way possible determining anything from the photo-zippo.

I think Jeff is on the mark, I’m sure that this is a push snap fastener, maybe from an old pair of overalls.
