What is this hat

Ah! images.

It's called a "cocked hat" and usually associated with a Navy.

Yours looks to be pretty close to a British Royal Navy 1843 Pattern.

However - without details of any label or the buttons it could be anything from authentic to a Gilbert & Sullivan stage prop.

My grandpa had a hat like that, and he was a mason. There were also those style hats in the Navy back long long ago, but for some reason I don't think it's a US Navy hat.
