Everyone here has been so helpful in the past and I thank you. I dug this yesterday in an area that had a logging camp near it in the 1870's-1880's. It was literally found on what used to be the old tram tracks going into the forest for hauling the lumber out. I am guessing that it is of iron as it has rust on it. I am also guessing that the "forks" have been bent over the years and were originally straight. Thanks again for all of the help in the past and thanks in advance for any future help.

I think it's a bracket rather than a handle.

You are probably right. Any ideas as to what it is a bracket off of or from?

Looks like part of a bicycle fender. What material is it made of? The fork area looks like a modern stamping.

Salvor6,

What part of the fender would it have been? Would it have been a decoration or something like that. I believe that it is made of iron or possibly steel since it is rusted. I thought the stamping on it looked more modern than the area that I am hunting but so far everything else that I have found has been from the 1870's to the early 1900's.

Thanks for the help.

Doug, I think if there's a real chance of identifying this thing you've got to photgraph the forked or right angle end which is really "where the action is" on this deal.

Johnnyi,

Sounds stupid on my part, but I never thought of getting a good pic of that end! :tongue3: I will try to get one posted tomorrow if time allows. Thanks for the help.

Maybe car roof rack bracket?

I'm sorry that I haven't got the other images up yet. Between work and a sick toddler I haven't had time to much of anything this week. I will see what tomorrow morning brings. Thanks again everyone for all of the help so far.
