My son found this while we were gem hunting in the Smokies, although, I am not sure the dirt in the bucket actually came from the area. A jeweler confirmed it is gold, but gave no answer to what this facinating piece could be. I am sorry pictures are not better. But, I was very eager to get this to you for your thoughts. It looks like it could have been a bell. What do you think?

The pics are a little blurry but it looks as if it broke off a jewelry piece of some kind. Does it swivel or is it one solid piece?

It does not swivel. Solid piece. It does not look modern, craftmanship seems to be a little on the primitive side. The ring is too small to fit a finger, but seems to be simetrical.

My first impression is that it is the attachment to a pocket watch. Looks like the watch got pulled from the piece. Great find! Happy hunting!

When the jeweler looked at it / polished it, he thought it looked to be 14K. It looks to be the same color as my 14K jewelry. BTW, it polished to a beautiful luster.

The point is that gold comes in many colors and a person cannot look at a peice and tell what the K value is...

Granted, its a nice piece, however, a person cannot look (naked eyeball) at a piece and tell what the K value is...

A jewelers stamp or a test will determine its composition...

It looks like a broken piece to an eyeglass holder pin/brooch. Nice find, Breezie
