It's not an item, I didn't dig it up, but this still seemed like it should be here. If it isn't, please relocate it.
What were these foundations to?
I pretty well know it was associated with the logging industry, Or just as likely, the narrow gauge railroad which is seen running north and south between the two.
I cant exactly date it, but I know concrete wasn't used much here till around 1905, the structures were marked abandoned on a 1927 map, and the land, I can find no owner yet except the state or national government.
In the surrounding area, there are 4 sets of these foundations spaced within about 2 square miles, all positioned near the railroad. The foundation are all oriented differently, and all seperated by roughly 100 to 150 feet. They are roughly 50 to 180 feet from the railbed, so I assume they're not "crane' type things
The foundation on the left, is about 30' x 50'. thew walls stand about 15" tall, have threaded studs sticking out, and remnants of sill plates. It had a concrete floor.
It one end are two semi-triangular runner looking things about 16 feet long. You can see them in the Satellite shot too.
The left foundation is like an 8 foot deep basement. Has window holes, and must have had an interior staircase. Its about 20 feet square, and has a concrete floor with a rather strange hole in it.
The hole is about 3 x 5 I guess, and you can also see it in the satellite shot.
Anyone have any ideas? Could these have been sawmills?
