Found in the soil of a large planter we inherited when we bought our home a month ago. The planter itself is modern (made of plastic), but the house was built in 1912.

I don't know what it's made of except it seems like metal. It is mostly flat but has a slight curve to it. It has a small hole in the middle. The color is coppery, but there is a dark spot on the back. The front has some indents that look decorative. The back is kinda rough-looking. It's about the size and thickness of a penny and weighs 1.86g.

What could it be? Thank you 😊

Is there perhaps a word on the back, or are my eyes making things up again? I'm seeing it along the darkened portion furthest from the hole.

I'd go with a wick winder. Another thought since you mentioned planter box would be for a nail with washer to hold weed cloth or plastic. But I'd still put my $$ on wick winder.

Maybe a wind chime clapper?

Is there a large hole in bottom of planter? Could of been repurposed for stemming the flow of water leaving the planter to keep more moisture in the soil

Oh wow. There are indeed letters (and perhaps numbers) on the back. I tried taking another picture and examining with and without my glasses, but I'm not quite sure what it says. Perhaps AMP30, AMP50, or AMPSO? Last letter could also be Q.

I'm wondering if there's a letter at the beginning and end that is worn away more. Could it possibly be Hampson (or something like that)?

There used to be a site on these wick winder wheels/ oil lamp maker buttons because many have names or patent dates on them
