What is this disc from?

I found this the other day also at a site that dates 1800's to 1950's. This small machined disc is approximately 7/8 inch diameter and 1/8 inch thick. Seems to be made of stainless steel and weighs 1/2 an ounce. My friend also found one at this site and another at a different site in the same general area. The flat side looks worn as if something was rubbing on it as it turned. (kind of looks like grooves on a mini record) Any ideas?

I can't put my finger on exactly what it came off of , but I am fairly certain it is a stainless bushing/spacer off of modern lawn equipment, maybe a weedeater , lawn mower, chainsaw ..................

Well this one was found in a grove of long leaf pines that were planted between the 50's and 60's. So that may explain it.

Looks like a bushing from a DVD player or a computer hard drive.

I think it is a thumb screw/tension screw with a similar application to this one, only on something more delicate.

There has beeb no activity at this site since the 50's no chance of it being from a tape player. Probably a bushing from some sort of tiller or planting device I guess.

Well, whatever timeline you decide on. Anyway, it's from an electric motor, which is why it's machined (thus the grooves, even on the non-contact area), to keep it balanced. Made of stainless steel to prevent rust that would then make it out of balance, causing vibration in the motor. There's a million applications for these, but I think it's newer than you want to believe.
