What is this crimper/ press thing? Looks like maybe it should be heated up.

It says made in Japan. And the press part is maybe a couple inches wide. What is this used for its driving me crazy!

I'm thinking it's a hair crimper. These days they are mostly electrified to heat the crimping plates. My daughter's have used the electric ones.

They are canvas stretching pliers. Used to stretch canvas over the wood. Artist would use them to make their own painting canvases

Thank you so much. It was really starting to get to me.

I had try to mentally rule out hair crimper because the handle was all metal and the crimp was fairly small.
