Great seal button I believe. Around 1902. I Could be wrong.

im trying to clean it up now to see whats on the back i know nothing bout buttons so what is it

ok so i cleaned it up the best i could and i think i can make out city button works but thats it

Soak in lemon juice for a short period.

The rim was added in 1910 so this CITY BUTTON WORKS backmark is 1910-1923. Its either N.Y., NEW YORK, or NEWARK.

The "Great Seal" button is the official button of the Army. It has been in use since 1902. From 1902 to 1910 the button did not have a rim. As BCH stated your button dates 1910-1923.
