What is this brass thingie? It is sheet brass, was folded at edge and soldered so would have been oval or round originally. From a 1740's home site not all that far from Valley Forge, say 10 miles or so. They cast musket balls at that farm. Also found some colonial flat buttons, black glass pieces, lead ingots, and my friend found his first George II or George III evasion copper. Ideas?

BTW it's too small for an old style gutter downspout. I thought maybe smushed sword scabbard.
 

Could be a squashed match safe, maybe late 1800's early 1900's. I have found a few and they look similar to that.
 

And more ideas? Going back there tomorrow.
