What is the poupose of the stems on these flint Adze's?

Found these two pretty close to one another in SW Missouri last weekend, are the pointed sections at the base a coincidence or were they designed this way?

Odd looking .... Are they broke where it could have been going to a narrow tip or does it look intentionally ground ?

I think they are broken. As luck would have it, they happen to break in a similar fashion possibly due to the hafting style.

Are you sure those are adze's? They look like scrapers or maybe crude knives to me.

Yhey are not adzes. They are rocks that were tested and worked and never finished into a fine tool. Sure they have an edge but that does do elevate them to the staus od adzes. Interesting materials but unstable
