Lots of factors in this question, but average depth of all finds for me: most old coins: 4-8. some old coins: 0-4. most new coins: 0-3, some new coins: 3-6. Since I mainly hunt for older coins, but of course still find new coins, I said my average was 2-3.

It could depend on how weak or iffy a target is we choose to dig.

I voted 3 to 4 inches as that seems to be the avg. depth of the majority of coins I find/have found thru-out the yrs.

As does everyone else, I find coins from 0 to 2 inches sometimes, and also find them at depths of 5 to 8 inches as well as finding some at depths of 9 to 12 inches (the latter being the least).

The deepest I have ever found a coin was approx. 14 inches in a plowed field where a 1 room school house stood at one time - while using a 12 inch coil on my detector. I also found an eagle button on a old school property (size of a quarter) at 15 to 16 inches in black wet soil...

IF your going for coins,

and Since your Going For "AVERAGE, I'd say 5"

I'v Dug them from 1" to 10" for sure,

And Possibly Deeper.

It's rare I take the time to actually Measure a Hole.

IF your Going For ALL my Treasures, The Deepest I dug (12oz Beer can) was, Lying on my Side, Cheek in MUD,? Arms Length Fingers Out Stretched, With Trawl, To Reach & Pry Up TARGET. ESTIMATE 41" So Average Here would be 20.5"

And before You Think I'm Crazy, Wouldn't You, If you Were Confident this was There ?

Most of my hunting is on the beach, so I find that my finds are a little deeper than on land (At least around here) I voted 4-5" as an average but I often exceed 8"

Nice can Jeff!

I'll post a few I have found!

I'd say late 30's Early 40's.

? ?The cone is Higher then my Yuengling's Can.

I was told by one of my Buyers. The Shorter the Cone the Earlier the Can.

& they stopped making them sometime in the 50's

I used to collect cans back in the 70s, so it caught my eye.? I think this might be the Kaier's can you have.? Like you said though, the one shown may be newer than yours.

Yep that's the same one, Only in Perfect shape "Kaier's Special Beer" as I said the taller the Cone the later.
? So it Definately could be 50's

THANKS.

I think what many are missing here is it asked for "average" depth, not median or middle. If you dig ten coins at 2" and 1 coin at 10", your average is 2 to 3, not 6.

I voted for 4 to 5 inches but I am going deeper since I got my Safari. I wasn't finding much at first until I learned that the depth guage of the Safari was junk and I needed to dig a couple of inches deeper than what the guage was showing. So next time I may vote deeper? Monty

My real average is 3 to 6 but that was not an option.
