I'm sure all of us have one! But what is something every time you've gone out in hopes to find or just something... doesn't really have to be worth $1 million but just something you wish you could bring home with you?

I think mine changes but one thing I have been looking for is a 14 karat gold charm bracelet. I went to a house a couple months ago and the lady showed me three of them. They were all loaded with charms all Marked 14 K. I could not get her to sell one of them! I offered her a spot for each one and she would not do it. Then last week I looked at one as well.... same thing lady would not sell it she said it was too personal. 8 $100 bills it was still a NOPE! Those little gold charms can be worth a lot of money though!

I didn't sell one on consignment but I would still like to buy my own someday. Preferably not for $1000!

I dream of a solid gold statue at a yard sale or auction.

Minelab GPX 5000 for $100 would be mine

That is a hard one for me, but it is going to be a great score on the shiny yellow stuff AU!

Something of historical significance such as a personal diary of a famous person or unknown musical work by a composer.

I've always wanted to come across a stash of grandpa's old workwear and hunting gear from the 40's and 50's. Just a giant box of old denim, wool, and canvas. I'd be in heaven, and stuff like that fetches a pretty penny! I'd also like to score a "barn find" 60's Detroit pickup, but I doubt that'll ever happen.

Mine would be a sterling silver serving platter. I have probably turned over hundreds of them but have yet only to find plated marks. I dream of the day I turn one over and see sterling stamped on it.

My dream is to buy a KILLER record collection. I have bought over a dozen collections but so far only a few scattered "gems" in the collections. I am hoping to find all MSFL vinyl or early 80s hardcore... Something like that.

Rolex paul newman Daytona, patek phillippe calatrava, tag heuer Monaco steve mcqueen

The ultimate for me...and you all are going to think I'm crazy...I would love to find a WWII airplane, preferably a Boeing B-17, somewhere out in the wild.

Okay, I know it is nearly impossible. There are no forgotten B-17's sitting around in a barn anymore. The odds of finding one are somewhere close to being struck by lightning at least ten times, on ten consecutive days, while hitting the Powerball eight weeks in a row...but a guy can dream, right?

I guess that I could settle for a P-51 Mustang, that someone left, somewhere, out in some forgotten building. The odds of finding one of those is only like being struck by lightning nine times on nine consecutive days, LOL.

After reading last week, I think a nice stash of diapers would be a big hit. Some old music tech, like a moog synthesizer would be a nice hit.

.

No kidding on the diapers. That blew my mind. I have been checking every thrift store for all diapers. Maybe I should ask for them at yard sales!

Top item on my Bucket List would be Angelina Jolie. But I am so old I forget why.???

I'm with you on this one. Something like that would be awesome especially if it was something from early American history like Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, etc. Here's the irony, though. I had something sort of like this once and gave it away. Well, donated it actually. My mother is an expert genealogist and has traced her line back to the 1500s in The Netherlands. Her family settled in upstate New York in the late 1600s and became good friends with a family by the name of Tompkins. Daniel Tompkins became Vice President of the US under James Monroe. During the Monroe presidency the government, as I understand it, had made a copper plate full-size replica of the Declaration of Independence which was used to print a limited number of copies of the Declaration. These copies were given to high-ranking government officials, including VP Tompkins. His copy, at some point, was given to my mother's family and it ultimately came to me about 30 years ago. I didn't have anywhere to hang it so it just sat in the attic crawl space. I was afraid it would get damaged so I donated it to the Florida State University library. The guy who came to pick it up was super excited to get it. I have often wondered what an item like that would bring at auction these days.

Oh yes. I remember hearing about that apartment some time ago but I had no idea about that painting. Wow!

The apartment story reminds me of a situation I encountered as a college student 30+ years ago. I went to school at the University of California at Santa Barbara. When I graduated, I planned to move to the east coast but I didn't have the money to ship some antique furniture. Fortunately, I had a friend who owned an older home and she had unused space above the garage that she allowed me to use for free. She said the ground floor space in the two-car garage had been rented by someone so that space was not available. When I looked in the garage, I discovered that about 75% of the ground floor was piled about 5 feet deep in old stuff. I asked her where all that stuff came from. She said that the guy who rented the space was the son of someone who ran a hardware store for many years in Santa Barbara but, after his father retired, the store sat idle for 20+ years. The property passed to the son upon the father's death and he didn't do anything with the property for another couple of decades. He finally decided to sell the property but needed to clear out the contents so he rented the garage space and moved it all in there. In other words, this garage was packed with vintage hardware, tools, display cases (and who knows what all else) dating back to the 1920s and 30s. I fantasize sometimes about finding a situation like that now.

As I was writing that post I got to wondering if the girl who owned the house was still around. I did a little googling around and, sure enough, she still lives in Santa Barbara. She has a web site with contact info so I sent her an email. I'm just dying to find out what happened with all that stuff. I know it is the longest of long shots but maybe it's still there. A guy can dream can't he?
