What is it?

I found this tonight at a place that is hunted heavily,by me. It was right on top. Maybe I pulled it from deeper on a previous hunt and then couldn't find it? There is a church festival held here each year,and it ended last weekend. I first thought it was a snap from a pair of jeans. After I cleaned it and looked at it with the loupe,it looks older. Checked the name on the internet and found nothing. Some kind of grommit maybe? I have pulled some early coins from this site, 1850's / 1860's,so it's got me wondering. It's a little bigger than a dime.
