I found it in kansas, it measures 1' × 8", it's heavier than it looks.

Sedimentary limestone indeed. Early pioneers to the plains of Kansas found not enough timber for all their needs, like the woodlands of the Ohio and Mississippi valley regions, but plenty of stone to use instead for fence post and building barns.
