Without seeing more detail from the poster, I would wild guess that it is a type of valve stem cap tools.

Based on the industrial standard of a 1/4" loop (pile) on the weave of a terrycloth bath towel, your mystery item is about 1 1/8" tall, brass, and if not hollow or threaded, then it is a "foot" off of some decorative or functional piece that sits on a shelf, mantle, or table. I am done talking out of my /\$$ now....Sub :laughing7:

On a similar subject I'm still waiting for someone to create an all-inclusive chart of paper towel patterns so that we can calculate the size of items that we see on those. :tongue3:

It looks like an uncrimped wire butt (same as a wire nut but permanent).
