What is it?

Yesterday I found something that looks as if it were silver, on my first day of metal detecting! (I've never had a md before)

The house I found this thing at is nearly 100 years old if not older.

The thing looked like it is a button but after going home and washing it a couple of times I don't know what it is. It has a diameter of 1.5cm a depth of .5cm. The metal seems to be silver. The under side is threaded and there is a little "L" at the top and a star in the middle. Looking at it from the top it has 8 sides.

I'll try to get a picture of it but can anyone take a guess to what it maybe?

Sounds like it is an 8 sided thing-a-magiigy. Model L LOL
