Re: What is it, worth...Old License plate

To the right person they are priceless. To most people that collect plates professionally, I couldn't tell ya. I do collect them though and most plates go for 5 to 20 bucks with more rare newer (1980s) plates going for about 35 bucks.

Hope this helps. I might be interested in them just because I think old stuff in general is cool! I don't collect "old plates" just old stuff!
:D :D :D

Yeah, I looked all over the net too and couldn't find one that old. I found a 22 (I think it was) that was 40 bucks that was listed as "In good shape". I really don't think it would go for a hundred bucks though. You can try it on E-bay and see. That one is really cool though. I couldn't a hundred bucks each though. Heck, I could barely afford a hundred buck for the pair! LOL

Most people collect them because they are free! It's easy to go online and buy a "COMPLETE FIFTY PLATE SET" of plates, it's another to go collect them yourself! Gotta spend lots of time crusing the malls! LOL No, but really, it's different if you wait patiently for a plate from that last state to pop up somewhere. It's like the difference between buys a set of baseball cards and putting a set together from the packs.

When I was looking for a new MD this week on ebay, I came across a seller that just sold a 1953 plate in ok shape for $101...Was surprised, as I didn't think there was much of a market for them. If they don't mean much to you, just put on ebay and let the market decide the price :)

Like I said, NORMALLY plates do usually fetch that much.  It may be a case of two guys with '53 Fords flip nose pickups that wanted a plate from that year for the front bumper.  You can buy plates ALL DAY LONG for less than that.

There is a Porcelain 1911 New Jersey Plate on Ebay right now with a buy it now price of $49.00, here's a link.  These are considered scarce because they were often broken. This one would bring a couple hundred if it weren't in such rough shape. Still fifty bucks for a scarce plate?

Like I said in an earlier post, the price of some of these plates or tags in the open market will suprise you. There are some dead serious plate collectors out there and if they get in head to head they will pay big bucks.
