SOLVED: What is it? Looks like a pen cap but no idea

Hi All,

Found this at a NJ beach, looks to be gold plated that is wearing off on some parts. Feels very solid throughout, the open end is crushed and is a hard metal that isnt movable with hands if that offers some help.

No idea though other than possibly a gold plated pencap that filled with something that hardened or used very sturdy metal. There is either something filling the inside or the top half is solid, because its heavy.

5o cal BMG from Air Corp practice in the 30's/40's. They used a lot of the beaches.

No question it is a fired bullet. Possibly WWII era tracer.
