Originally thought it was a cob coin found on my birthday last year but now thinking might be a bail seal. Looks like it has two dates 1799-1805 Spanish style symbols blank on reverse. Help me identify please. B79D51F9-61F6-4C7F-BA51-321947DD7A43.webp406B42A3-1CE4-45BA-98D6-3C7F5D10F8A0.webp

First off... a very cool and potentially historic find if made in NY State! :occasion14:
I'm thinking 'bale seal', in this pic you can see at the bottom of the piece where the metal attachment points were.

Very cool find.

It looks like it has two X's an anchor and the text. Is that what you see? Anything else?

I think an historical expert at a museum like the Long Island Maritime Museum or college in the area may now more about bale seals of the area and be able to identify the material shipped. Never know.

Possibly...A Riga Seal 1725 - 1795?

It was mistakenly thought that the Crossed Anchor & Grapnel represented ONLY Saint Petersburg.
Well it does but only when it is crossed with a Sceptre making it the capital of Russia,

but on their own
The Crossed Anchor and Grapnel have another meaning which is used for many cities with ports.

Together they mean that the city has both river and sea ports.[/TD]

Yours appears to have the Seal of Saint Petersburg, Russia running through it.
On further examination I see it does not have the Scepter of Saint Petersburg crossing through the Seal.
It appears the Anchor and Grapnel are not in line due to what I presume was the Seal being crushed out of shape.
It is still a Riga Seal now eliminated coming from Saint Petersburg.
Date on left of your Seal...I believe shows...1799
Maybe an Official Seal!

I think Robot is right. These anchor and grapple seals are (among other motives) russian flax and hemp bale seals. I am not fully sure about Riga, though. The key maybe be the second saltire below the anchor&grapple which could denote city or exporter.

In any case I would go back wher you found it. The flax and hemp fibres where used for caulking and other interesting things. There might be shipyard or bath there.

1799 Russian over sized "hemp" bale seal.
Proof of Trump's Russian Collusion, or at least his great, great , great, grand father. (LOL) !
Great find !

That's an AWESOME find.
I don't see many bale seals getting this much ID.
Congrats

Great find !

1799 the Trumps were still Trumpfs and were presumedly good loyal bavarian subjects in Kallstadt.

While Kallstadt is somewhat the armpit of the universe, America would not have 57 varieties of Ketchup and Hillary as Preisdent, so ya all better respect the 1200 inhabitant metropolis of Kallstadt.

Hmm perhaps someone should detect there. A button with an T on it could be an American history .

I thank you all for the great info and it is officially being marked as SOLVED. Robot nailed it and I very excited to say my seal is now on that website The PeaceHavens Project.
I’m extremely happy ! 872CC4C3-EF66-4796-86B9-139CA133D49D.webp
