What is this? What is carbon? What type of metal it it? Pot metal? If it is a button. When was it produced if it is a company. I see in picture 3. Which is the back of the thing. Is a metal swirl spoink and a Brown clothy stringy thing?

Banner find for sure. Definitely a 16th center spoink! I can see its dark, circular eyes and its large gray nose, and if you look closely, you can even see it small ears. Stellar find indeed.

looks like shotgun brass to me , here they often rot down to what's left looks like a button.
we call them Virginia city buttons ,some from Winchester and some from Remington.
