Hi Everyone,

I am posting this for a friend of my wife. I do not know any deminisons yet and I don't have any other images yet. My wife is trying to get that for me though.

Here is what I do know. The upper black portion is made of black velvet and spins when you turn the wheel. Not much to go on, I know.

I am guessing that the base is marble although I don't know. With the dragon motif I figure that it is Asian, maybe something to do with silk?

Thanks in advance and my wife's friend also says thanks.

Looks like a bobbin winder, but I can't find a pic of one that fancy.

Very nice piece.

That is very cool :icon_thumleft: I want one ;D
It makes sense as a bobbin winder but I haven't been able to readily find a pic of anything similar.

I searched some more. Still can't find anything quite like this piece.

I'll speculate that this item is a rare survivor. Possibly dates to the turn of the 20th c (1880's to 1910's).

For what it's worth, I'm confident it is a bobbin winder. It _MAY_ have something to do with making lace. The black velvet part maybe a sort of thread tensioner to keep the thread tight on the bobbin.

Again, I'm only guessing... There are plenty of experts on the internet who can give you more definitive information if you contact them.

Thanks for chiming in. I will pass the info on to the wife and her friend. I am sure that she will be happy with the info.

Doug

I am also going to mark it as solved. Thanks Matt!
