It is civil war and looks to be either a Maynard Carbine or a foreign mold bullet. How big is it? Did you happen to find any thin copper discs in the same area. The Maynards had a brass casing with a copper disc soldered to the bottom. The discs would come off lots of times.

Don't feel bad I at first I thought it was a tranter pistol bullet but like you said they have a more rounded nose. the odd thing about the Maynards is in the books they are listed as US. Every one I've dug or seen dug has come from confederate camps.

True. As badly as those things were made the yanks might have left them out for the southern boys to pick up.
