This old ring was very deep, around 14-16 inches under a fallen tree near an old Fort. As you can see, it measures 8 inches around.

Interesting Placement! I always hope digs like that will be a burried treasure! If it is a wagon rim or tire, these photos may help.

I too think it is a wheel hub band off of a wooden wagon wheel.
